Calculate Bust Dart Tool
What it Does
This tool is a critical utility designed to bridge the gap between 2D drafting and 3D body contours. It automatically determines the precise Bust Dart Width and Bust Dart Vertical Drop required to accommodate the specific arc of a user's bust. By calculating the difference between the high bust and full bust in conjunction with the actual cup size, it produces a significantly more accurate dart and center front length than standard proportional methods.
This tool also allows you to automatically add these measurements to a chosen measurement set for incorporation into any draft requiring a bust dart. Incorporating these calculated variables into your formulas is essential for achieving a professional, balanced fit across various cup sizes and body types.
The Calculate Bust Dart tool utilizes a multi-step proportional method to determine the ideal dart width for a specific physique.
- Cup Size Identification: The process begins by calculating the individual's cup size based on the relationship between the High Bust and Full Bust measurements.
- Base Dart Calculation: The system establishes a baseline dart width using European proportional logic. For a standard B cup, the formula is (Full Bust ÷ 10) − 2.2cm.
- Cup Size Adjustment: Once the B-cup baseline is established, the value is mathematically adjusted to account for the user's specific cup size.
- Methodology Note: This drafting approach differs from common United States methods, which typically draft a standard B-cup block and rely on the "slash and spread" technique to manually adjust for different cup sizes. By contrast, PatternMaker Pro builds the specific cup volume directly into the initial draft calculation facilitating accurate draft memorization and recall.
