Move Dart to Dart-Tucks Tool Icon

Move Dart to Dart-Tucks Tool

What it Does

Converts traditional darts into multiple parallel tucks with precise cut-off points. The tool redistributes dart fullness while creating partially sewn elements that maintain shaping but add textural and architectural interest to the garment surface.

tip

Tucks are sewn from the pattern edge to the cut-off point only. The area from cut-off to pivot remains unsewn, creating the dimensional tuck effect.

How to Use

  1. Activate the tool by clicking the Move Dart to Dart-Tucks icon
  2. Select a dart from the Available Darts list
  3. Enter the percentage to move (whole number, 50 for 50%)
  4. Select the defining slash point (center point of the tuck darts) and then the dart apex
  5. Use the slider to position the bright green point at the tuck cut-off location:
  6. See red dashed line connecting apex to defining point
  7. Adjust using slider or enter values to measure From Blue slash point or From Red apex point
  8. Select slash points in order starting furthest from the existing dart (include the defining point)
  9. Select points to move ending with the first leg of the existing dart
  10. Click Save to create the dart-tucks or Cancel to abort
warning

Curves between old and new dart locations will not retain their shape. Use the Curve to Line tool to convert curves to polylines before applying this tool.
