What it Does

Creates professional grain direction markers that communicate essential fabric alignment information for cutting and construction. The tool provides standard grain orientations and custom options to ensure proper drape, stretch placement, and fabric performance in finished garments.

Grainlines are essential pattern markings that guide fabric cutting for optimal drape and garment performance. Every pattern piece should include appropriate grain direction indicators.

How to Use

  1. Activate the tool by clicking the Add Grainline icon
  2. Select the type of grainline:
    • Horizontal: For crosswise grain orientation
    • Vertical: For lengthwise grain orientation
    • On Bias: For 45-degree bias grain placement
  3. Convert Existing Line: Transform existing pattern line into grainline
  4. Position the grainline:
    • For new grainlines: Click anywhere on canvas to locate the center point
    • For conversions: Select existing line to convert
  5. Enter grainline length (numeric value or formula)
  6. Click Save to create the grainline or Cancel to abort

Position grainlines where they won't interfere with pattern construction but remain clearly visible for cutting reference.
