Add Clip Marks Tool

What It Does

This tool automatically places production-ready slash notches and wedge relief cutouts along your pattern seam allowances to guide proper fabric release during garment construction.

Instead of guessing where to clip or notch curved seam allowances, this tool applies the proper relief markers directly to your active vector paths:

  • Clips (Slits): Places inward straight relief cuts on curves that need to open out (concave curves like necklines and inward waist contours) so the fabric can spread flat without binding.
  • Wedges (V-Notches): Places triangular cutout markers on curves that open in (convex curves like collar outer edges, armhole caps, and hip flares) to remove bulk and prevent overlapping seam allowance layers when pressed open or turned right-side out.

By generating these markers with mathematically consistent spacing and depth, the tool ensures production pieces align effortlessly at the sewing machine without manual measurement.

How to Use

  1. Activate the tool by clicking the Add Clip Marks icon
  2. Select one or more lines or curves where you want to place the marks
  3. Select the type of marking:
    • Clip (concave)
    • Wedge (convex)
  4. The tool automatically positions the marks at optimal intervals along the selected edge
  5. Select Other Side if the marks are drawn inside the pattern. They should lay between the sewing line and the seam allowance.
  6. Click Save to apply keep the marks or Cancel to abort the operation
Workflow Prerequisite

Generate your seam allowances on the target lines and curves before applying this tool. Clip and wedge marks calculate their depth automatically from the cut edge of the seam allowance, terminating safely 1/8" (3 mm) before the finished seam line to prevent cutting into the stitching path during garment construction.
