 Move Layer Tool Icon

Move Layer Tool

What it Does

Moves entire layer hierarchies by precise X and Y coordinate values, translating all contained elements including points, lines, curves, and child layers while maintaining their spatial relationships. The tool provides mathematical accuracy for positioning elements at exact measured locations.

tip

Use the preview function to verify movement before applying changes ensuring your pattern elements will be positioned exactly where intended.

How to Use

  1. Activate the tool by clicking the Move Layer icon
  2. Select the layer to move from the hierarchical tree displayed
  3. Enter the horizontal value (X-axis movement):
    • Positive values: Move right
    • Negative values: Move left
    • Zero: No horizontal movement
  4. Enter the vertical value (Y-axis movement):
    • Positive values: Move up
    • Negative values: Move down
    • Zero: No vertical movement
  5. Values can be numeric or formula expressions
  6. Click Preview to see the new position before committing
  7. Click Save to apply the movement or Cancel to abort
warning

Movement affects the entire selected layer and all its child layers. Consider the impact on relationships with other pattern elements before applying large movements.
