What it Does

Creates precisely positioned button and buttonhole systems with automatic spacing calculations and perfect alignment. The tool manages both placement phases, button positioning and corresponding buttonhole creation, ensuring professional closure functionality with customizable positioning and rotation controls.

The tool automatically remembers all button specifications when creating matching buttonholes, ensuring perfect alignment while allowing independent customization of buttonhole size, position, and rotation.

Two-Phase Workflow

Phase 1: Button Placement

  • Select reference line for button positioning (typically center front)
  • Define collar reference point for row positioning
  • Specify button size, spacing, and quantity
  • Buttons are centered on the selected line
  • Save buttons independently or proceed to buttonhole creation

Phase 2: Buttonhole Creation (Optional)

  • Select corresponding line for buttonhole placement
  • Choose matching collar reference point
  • Adjust buttonhole size (defaults to button size + 3mm/0.125")
  • Fine-tune buttonhole position relative to buttons
  • Customize rotation angle for optimal function

Button Placement Process

Activate the tool by clicking the Add Buttons/Buttonholes icon

  1. Select a line for button placement (typically a vertical line such as center front)
  2. Select the point on the line located at the collar position
  3. Both endpoints of the selected line will be displayed
  4. Mouse over point names to see them highlighted in the workspace
  5. Choose the point that represents the top of your button row
  6. Enter the size of your buttons (diameter or width measurement)
  7. Adjust the Distance to Collar if needed:
    • Default: First button placed one button width from collar point
    • Custom: Enter specific distance for different spacing
  8. Define button distribution by entering either:
    • Number of Buttons: Total quantity desired
    • Distance Between Buttons: Spacing measurement
  9. Click Preview to visualize the button placement
  10. Choose save option:
    • Save Complete button placement only
    • Save & Create Buttonholes Proceed to buttonhole phase

Buttonhole Creation Process

Select a line for buttonhole placement (often corresponding to button line)

  1. Select the collar point that corresponds to the button collar point
  2. Review and adjust buttonhole size:
    • Default: Button size + 0.125" (3mm) for insertion clearance
    • Customize based on button type and fabric thickness
    • Consider button shape and closure requirements
  3. Set button placement within buttonhole:
    • Use slider or enter specific value
    • Positions can be centered, left-aligned, or right-aligned
    • Lock setting applies same position to all buttonholes
    • Unlock to set different positions for first and last buttonholes
  4. Configure buttonhole rotation:
    • Set angle for optimal button insertion and security
    • Lock setting maintains consistent angle across all buttonholes
    • Unlock for custom rotation of first and last buttonholes
  5. Review the completed button and buttonhole system
  6. Click Save to finalize or Cancel to abort
