Add Fastener Extension Tool

What it Does

Creates mathematically precise fastener extensions. The tool automatically generates a complete extension system with construction guidelines that ensure proper fastener placement, overlap allowances, and folding mechanics for any closure type. It accommodates self-facing extensions or applied extensions.

tip

Applied extensions are a separate pattern that is sewn to the extended pattern edge.

How to Use

1. Activate the tool by clicking the Fastener Extension icon
2. Select the line to extend from (typically center front or center back)
3. Select the two lines or curves connected to the extension line at the top and bottom
4. Enter the fastener width measurement in the dialog box (typically the button diameter)
5. Select the type of extension:
   • Self-Facing: The extension extends from the selected pattern with all appropriate fold lines.
   • Applied Facing: The selected pattern extends the fastener width and then the rest of the extension is on another newly generated pattern.
6. Select the number of folds:
   • Single Fold: The extension will fold underneath the center line.
   • Double Fold: The extension will fold once and then again to end underneath the center line.
7. The tool automatically creates the complete extension system with color-coded construction lines
8. Review the generated extension with its multiple reference lines
9. Click Save to create the extension or Cancel to abort

Line Functions

Blue= Line: Original center line - fastener placement reference

Red Dashed Line: Outside fold line

Solid Pattern Edge: New black cutting line - the actual pattern boundary

If adding buttons and buttonholes, place them on the aqua line (original center line) for proper positioning.
