Add Fastener Extension Tool

What it Does

Creates mathematically precise fastener extensions using the professional 3:1 ratio formula. The tool automatically generates a complete extension system with construction guidelines that ensure proper fastener placement, overlap allowances, and folding mechanics for any closure type.

The 3:1 ratio (extension width = 3 × fastener width) is the industry standard that provides optimal space for fastener placement, overlap, and clean finishing.

How to Use

1. Activate the tool by clicking the Fastener Extension icon
2. Select the line to extend from (typically center front or center back)
3. Select the two lines or curves connected to the extension line at the top and bottom
4. Enter the fastener width measurement in the dialog box
5. The tool automatically creates the complete extension system with color-coded construction lines
6. Review the generated extension with its multiple reference lines
7. Click Save to create the extension or Cancel to abort

The extension line must be properly connected to perpendicular lines at both ends to establish the extension boundaries.

Line Functions

Aqua Dashed Line: Original center line - fastener placement reference

Red Dashed Line: Outside fold line - one fastener width from original

Grey Dashed Line: Fold alignment guide - aligns with original when folded

Solid Pattern Edge: New cutting line - the actual pattern boundary

If adding buttons and buttonholes, place them on the aqua dashed line (original center line) for proper positioning.
