What it Does​

Creates controlled pattern fullness by rotating pattern blocks around a pivot point. The tool uses precise mathematical calculations to maintain pattern integrity while adding the exact amount of spread needed for design modification or fit adjustment.

The selection order is critical. Always select slash points from farthest to nearest relative to the pivot point to define the rotating block correctly.

Critical Selection Order​

The tool requires a specific selection sequence to properly define the rotating pattern block:

Selection Sequence​

  1. Slash Points (Distance Order): Select one or more slash points in order from furthest from pivot around to nearest to pivot
  2. Block Points: Select all other points that should move with the rotating block
  3. Pivot Point: Select the pivot point last as this becomes the rotation center

Why Order Matters​

  • The tool uses selection order to identify which pattern segment will rotate
  • Incorrect order can result in unexpected rotation behavior
  • The first slash point defines the rotating block's leading edge
  • The pivot point anchors the rotation and must be selected last

You are outlining the "block" that will rotate. Select the slash point furthest away from the pivot on the block first, followed by any others moving closer to the pivot.

How to Use​

  1. Activate the tool by clicking the Slash & Spread icon
  2. Plan your selection strategy by identifying:
  3. The desired pivot point (rotation center)
  4. The pattern block that will rotate
  5. The slash points in distance order from pivot
  6. Select slash points in order from furthest to nearest relative to the pivot
  7. Select all other points that should move with the rotating block
  8. Select the pivot point last to complete the block definition
  9. Enter the spread amount (distance between current and desired slash point positions)
  10. Review the rotation preview
  11. Click Save to apply the spread or Cancel to abort
Important

You cannot select curve points to move during this process. Use the Curve to Line tool to convert curves to lines before applying slash and spread.
